Day 2 on our journey to Africa was so much fun! We got
drumming lessons from Treva Offutt in the Dance Studio. Each camper got his or
her own djembe drum to practice on. These authentic West African drums are hand
carved from native trees and marked with details from the landscape. Some had
waves and others mountains! The Gator Trainers loved the lesson and we were
lucky enough to have Ms. Offutt drum for us in the afternoon in the Multi
Purpose Room. We complimented her rhymes with moves learned watching African
Dance on the Smart Board.
The craft of the day was in homage to a story by Anastasia
Suen, "An Elephant Grows up." Campers decorated their own hand print
to look like an elephant. You will be amazing at how authentic it looks. Today
was a favorite for sure!
